Summer Camp 2009

This year we were able to accommodate 2 weeks of summer camp with 31 children total attending. Their experience varied from never having been near a horse to having taken lessons for several years.  Despite several overcast days all had an amazing and memorable time.  Just prior to camp a foal was born and the kids had the opportunity to see how a mom cares for their baby.  Our kids worked hard and at the end of the hot, sticky August days they had a great time cooling off in the pool before heading home.   This is all due to the generosity of our donors that this year came through once again for these children.

A note of thanks goes out to the following sponsors, without you this camp would not be possible.

•Mr. Roger Beauregard
•Mr. Kevin Cripps
•Mr. Michel Gareau
•Ms. Millie Gardner
•Mr. Costa Manolakis
•Mr. Carlos Yazbeck (Trans Express)
•DBA 12 Ounce
•Hagen Family Foundation
•Jewish Community Foundation (Beamish Foundation)
•Journey Freight (Defilippo Family)
•Louise Dion Foundation
•Messageries Quick Messenger (Ms. Suzanne Ethridge)

Epona would like to pay tribute to the volunteers that make the program work.  Sandy Parks, Pascale Koury and Brenda Scalzo were with us when we first started.  They have since moved on and we wish them all the best.

Epona would like to thank the hard work of Sandu Strunga who joined us last year and with her crockpots and a penchant for organization has taken on the clubhouse, lunch and clothing responsibilities.  Actually Sandu manages pretty much everything we pass onto her.

Chloe Lux has taken on the coaching of our riders and has them, trotting, cantering and jumping in unison.  Chloe has incredible patience and has the gift of building self confidence and positive self-esteem in our kids.

Darlene Job has quietly entered the scene recently and picks up any job that has been left undone and even creates some of her own.

Gabe Map tirelessly gives up all his Saturdays to get the children to and from the ranch.

Our Dedicated Committee

Last year the committee was put together.  It was seen as a necessity and natural progression to develop a group of people who would see to the day to day operation of Epona.

The Committee Members are:

Jackie Poirier.  Jackie is the equestrian director and is responsible for putting together the amazing musical rides.  This year it will take place in the spring….stay tuned for the date.

Gabe Map.  Gabe manages the transportation of the children and animates at the ranch.  He is also our main liason with the parents.

Melanie Raymond.  Mel is exceptional at taking our minutes abd keeping us on track during our meetings.  She has also translated our forms and is in the process of translating our website and this newsletter.

Sandu Strunga.  Sandu manages our clubhouse and just about everything else that I either forget or avoid.

Darlene Job:  Darlene helps with the animation and supervises the younger children.

Peter Desmier.  Peter is the “money man”.  He devotes every waking moment (and I’m sure some of his sleeping ones) to fundraising and finding sponsors for Epona..

Donations to The Epona Foundation

To our friends of Epona,

For those of you who received the e-mail requesting your support of $50.00 towards our transportation fund, it is not too late to send it in.

Many of our supporters have found donating through Canadahelps.org to be quick, reliable and secure.

Please take a moment to make that donation and support a program you know to be invested in our youth of today. On behalf of our youth, families and volunteers we thank you for making this program possible.

Peter Desmier
